Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

South African business activity stabilises in January, S&P PMI shows

South Africa's private sector business conditions stabilised in January after a challenging end to 2025, as demand steadied and price pressures eased, an S&P Global survey showed on Wednesday. The Purchasing Managers' Index climbed to a neutral 50 in January, up from 47.7 in December. PMI readings above 50 indicate growth, while those below denote contraction.

Seriti Green appoints Motloung as COO as projects move into operation

Renewable energy independent power producer Seriti Green has appointed Chabisi Motloung as COO, as the company’s projects, including the giant Ummbila Emoyeni Wind Farm in Mpumalanga, move into operation. The first three faces of Ummbila Emoyeni are now under construction, and involve wind projects with a combined capacity of 465 MW, as well as a new main transmission substation. The full 900 MW development will involve five wind farms, a solar PV generator and a battery storage facility.

Trump signs extension of Africa duty-free trade programme, USTR says

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed a law extending a preferential trade programme for Africa through December 31, effective retroactively from September 30, 2025, the chief US trade negotiator said. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said his office would work with Congress this year to update the programme to provide more market access for US businesses, farmers and ranchers, and to align with Trump's America First trade policy. The African Growth and Opportunity Act, first enacted in 2000 to provide duty-free access to the US market for eligible Sub-Saharan African countries covering more than 1 800 products, expired in September, putting at risk hundreds of thousands of African jobs.

Vodacom delivers strong Q3, bolstered by International, Egypt

JSE-listed telecommunications giant Vodacom Group has posted a strong third quarter, with sustained growth recorded across the group’s International and Egypt operations. In a trading update for the quarter ended December 31, Vodacom reported that group revenue increased 11% to R43.9-billion, while group service revenue grew 12.7%.
