What the Renewable Energy (IPP) Projects have contributed to the Small Medium Micro Enterprises in South Africa

The purpose of this presentation is to provide the information on what the Renewable Energy (IPP) Projects have contributed to the Small Medium Micro Enterprises in South Africa.
The support for SMME’s are expected to continue to increase annually.
The support is also expected to increase once all the projects from BW4 finalise Construction and enter the Operations Measurement Period.

Africa cannot rely solely on knowledge transfer from Europe, Asia or the US and must develop its own research and innovation ecosystem to drive the growth of electric micro-mobility across the continent, uYilo eMobility Programme programme manager Edem Foli has said. Established by the Technology Innovation Agency in 2013, uYilo provides an accredited battery testing and materials characterisation facility, an electric vehicle (EV) systems laboratory, and a smart e-mobility ecosystem for testing and developing original-equipment manufacturer products and services. These facilities assist startups, small, medium-sized and microenterprises (SMMEs), and innovators in testing, developing, and validating their products, helping them to commercialise solutions and contribute to the industrialisation of the sector.

South Africa’s coal-heavy grid not a barrier to EV adoption, C40 Cities says

The argument that South Africa’s coal-heavy electricity grid makes the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) premature has been dismissed by C40 Cities (South Africa) senior programme manager for Africa Prian Reddy. Speaking at the Smarter Mobility Africa conference, in Sandton, on October 2, he said that such claims were misguided and that the introduction of electric mobility and the decarbonisation of the grid needed to proceed in parallel.

While Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) has been voted Africa’s best in a number of categories, it has now reached the point where "urgent upgrades" are needed, says City of Cape Town Economic Growth MMC James Vos. In 2024, the airport welcomed more than 10-million passengers and moved 75 000 t of cargo.
