Worries persist despite recent moves to overhaul air traffic entity

South Africa’s aviation sector faces a critical test as recent systemic failures at State-owned Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) disrupt operations and cause delays, triggering safety warnings from industry experts. Air traffic safety underpins airline performance, public trust and the country’s global standing. But management failures at ATNS have not only caused operational chaos and delays but also a mass exodus of skilled and experienced personnel, which must be stemmed through comprehensive and proactive measures to prevent the further deterioration of safety standards and to restore the integrity of South Africa’s aviation infrastructure.
