Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current

Decarbonisation and switching to renewable energy can be key drivers of competitiveness as local manufacturers seek to and remain competitive in a changing global landscape and increase capacity utilisation. South African manufacturing has been in a sustained, structural decline over the past three decades, with the sector’s share of GDP decreasing from 23% to 13% currently. The decline is attributable to a combination of international and local factors, including negligible economic growth, weak local demand, insufficient trade protection in some cases, inadequate municipal service delivery, high electricity prices and poor policy alignment.

Eskom to interrupt bulk electricity supply to one North West municipality from May 8

Power utility Eskom has confirmed that it will proceed with the interruption of bulk electricity supply to the Mamusa local municipality, in the North West, from May 8, after the municipality failed to reach an agreement with the State-owned entity to settle its outstanding debt. The utility in March notified various municipalities across the country of its intention to interrupt bulk electricity supply for several hours a day owing to the debt owed to Eskom by the municipalities for more than 18 months.

The Competition Tribunal has approved a merger that will see new forestry company Cape Forests Products acquire sole control of the merged entity of softwood forestry company MTO Forestry and wood-based products manufacturer PG Bison Southern Cape (PGBSC). The transaction has been approved, subject to conditions governing supply, transparency, employment and broader public interest considerations, the tribunal says.

Kariba Dam rehabilitation 94% complete, on track for year-end conclusion

Zambia and Zimbabwe bilateral organisation the Zambezi River Authority says the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project (KDRP) is about 94% complete and remains on course for completion by the end of the fourth quarter of the year. The only work remaining is the spillway refurbishment project, which will restore and improve the reliability, safety and functionality of the Kariba dam’s spillway system.
