Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current

ASPI's subsidiary forms partnership with Necsa to produce HALEU nuclear fuel

Nasdaq- and JSE-listed advanced materials company ASP Isotopes’ (ASPI’s) nuclear fuel processing subsidiary Quantum Leap Energy (QLE) and the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) have entered into a pre-implementation services contract agreement as part of the planned collaboration on research, development and commercial production of high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU). This is a critical step towards addressing global nuclear fuel supply needs for next-generation fission reactors.

Sasol to begin reducing external coal purchases as destoning plant raises quality

Energy and chemicals group Sasol is aiming to begin ramping up internal coal production and reducing external coal purchases after its destoning plant reached beneficial operation in December. CEO Simon Baloyi said the project, which involved a repurposing of the Twistdraai export coal plant, had been completed within its budget of about R700-million and was facilitating the delivery of coal to Sasol’s Secunda Operations with a total sinks content of about 12%.

Mulilo reaches financial close on 219 MW Orkney solar PV project

Renewable energy developer and independent power producer Mulilo has has successfully reached financial close on the Orkney solar PV facility, a 219 MW direct current solar PV project with a contracted export capacity of 150 MW alternating current, located about 11 km south-west of the town of Orkney, in the North West province. The company says this project represents an important milestone in Mulilo’s ambitious strategy to deliver 1 GW/y of new generation capacity, reinforcing the company’s role as a leading contributor to South Africa’s energy transition.

Energy Council asks for fiscal support towards continued electricity reform

Ahead of the 2026 Budget that will be delivered on February 25, the Energy Council of South Africa has called on Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to prioritise electricity grid delivery and fiscal support for reform in the power sector. The council says it believes power sector reform is the foundation for economic growth and job creation in South Africa, especially considering the large amount of investment needed in transmission and distribution infrastructure.
