Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

South Africa nears decision on steel tariffs amid import influx

South Africa's government will release the preliminary findings of its review of steel tariffs next week, moving a step closer to protecting the local industry from increased imports. The review was initiated by the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) in March, following a ministerial directive.

Following the diplomatic failures that have transpired between South Africa and the US over the past six months, along with the 30% tariffs imposed on South African exports to the US as of August 7, Western Cape Provincial Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism Minister Ivan Meyer has downscaled the province’s economic growth ambitions from 5% to 3% a year by 2035. The province’s Growth for Jobs (G4J) strategy envisioned building a R1-trillion economy in the Western Cape by 2035, which has also been tempered on the back of economic pressure from the US.

New online tracker provides updated dashboard of South Africa’s reform progress

Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) has officially launched a free online platform that provides a regularly updated view of the progress, or otherwise, government is making in implementing priority economic, governance and criminal justice reforms. Dubbed the ‘BLSA Reform Tracker’, the platform provides a dashboard view of the reforms being implemented across the three areas, including the priority economic reforms being pursued under Operation Vulindlela, the joint project of the Presidency and the National Treasury set up in 2020 to address constraints to growth and investment.
