AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current

July PMI signals marginal improvement in South African business conditions

Market research and financial intelligence company S&P Global's South Africa Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rose to 50.3 in July from 50.1 in June, signalling a slightly stronger, but marginal improvement in business conditions. The headline index has been in growth territory for three months in a row. Readings above 50 signal an improvement in business conditions on the previous month, while readings below 50 show a deterioration.

Nersa approves another trading licence in favour of Lyra Energy Trading

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has awarded an electricity trading licence to Lyra Energy Trading following a comprehensive process that included public hearings. The licence was officially approved on July 30 and came against the backdrop of a legal challenge by Eskom of Nersa’s approval of six other trading licences in 2024.

The Radiation Planning Assistant (RPA) – a Web-based AI-powered platform developed at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Centre (MDACC), in the US, has seen clinical integration at the Universitas Academic Hospital, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. This is the first clinical site outside the US to integrate this AI-powered platform into cancer treatment planning. University of the Free State (UFS) Department of Medical Physics and the Department of Oncology, together with Universitas Academic Hospital, are conducting this initiative to help in the creation of radiotherapy treatment plans, the university says.

JRA to start Phase 2 of Lillian Ngoyi street reconstruction in September

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) says the first phase of the rehabilitation project on Lilian Ngoyi street, between Harrison and Kruis streets, is on schedule to be completed by the end of August, with 86% of the construction scope already finalised. Construction of new and reinforced tunnels, as well as the backfilling and compaction works, are complete. The remainder of the project scope is progressing at the anticipated pace and includes the construction of pavement layers.

Telkom continues positive momentum in Q1
