Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

In Africa, the cost of jet fuel is changing faster than you can fly

Airlines are grappling with soaring jet fuel prices as the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran has caused a supply shortage - leaving consumers facing surcharges and airlines struggling to manage volatile costs as the fuel gets scarcer. Africa is among the most exposed regions to both supply disruptions and higher prices. Around 70% of jet fuel and kerosene imports to the continent flow via the Strait of Hormuz, according to financial and commodities analytics firm S&P Global.

Coleus Packaging invests R200m in new plant equipment for metal closures

Crown closures and metal packaging manufacturer Coleus Packaging on March 20 showcased the R200-million investments it has made in its Alrode, Johannesburg, factory. The company showcased the new coater and resizer line, as well as a new punching and lining machine, manufactured by industrial plant equipment manufacturer SACMI. The single punching and lining machine replaced two lines at the factory. It has the same output, but greater efficiency, said Coleus Packaging MD Ian Victor during the tour of the factory.

Govt, industry insist there is no risk to fuel supply amid ‘panic buying’ fears

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources and the Fuels Industry Association have issued a joint statement urging South Africans not to engage in any “panic-buying” of fuel, insisting that supplies to the country remain stable for the immediate future. The joint statement comes amid concerns of possible supply disruptions as well as the prospect of extreme price hikes in diesel and petrol in April, precipitated by blockages to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz following the launch of military attacks on Iran by the US and Israel.

RMI, Germany’s HWK Erfurt launch three-year e-mobility skills partnership

The Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) and the German Chamber of Crafts (HWK) Erfurt have launched a three-year structured technical and vocational education and training (TVET) partnership, focused on skills development for electric mobility. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, implemented by Sequa and managed by HWK Erfurt, the project will run until the end of 2028, with the aim of strengthening South Africa’s readiness for the transition to electric and hybrid vehicle technology.
