Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

Competition Commission welcomes ConCourt’s dismissal of Takata application to review ...

The Competition Commission has welcomed the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) order, handed down in December 2025, in which it dismissed, with costs, automotive parts company Takata South Africa’s application for leave to appeal an earlier Competition Appeal Court (CAC) ruling. Takata South Africa had approached the ConCourt requesting leave to appeal a CAC ruling handed down on January 16, 2025, which dismissed, with costs, its appeal and review against the decision of the Competition Tribunal.

UK-South Africa celebrate five years of development-focused free trade pact

The South Africa-UK development-focused free trade Economic Partnership Agreement, now in its fifth year and designed to harness the power of trade for mutual growth and job creation, has delivered significant benefits, including tariff savings on R50-billion of South African exports to the UK in 2024, while deepening trade, supporting jobs and boosting export-led growth. The British High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa’s Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), Western Cape trade and investment promotion organisation Wesgro and business organisation the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a seminar in Cape Town on January 20 to raise awareness of the market access and tariff savings available under this agreement with the UK.

Only 30% of CEOs confident about revenue growth in the next year – survey

Audit and assurance firm PwC's ‘2026 Global CEO Survey’ shows that only three in ten, or 30% of, CEOs say they are confident about revenue growth over the next 12 months, which is down from 38% in 2025, and 56% in 2022. The findings suggest that, as CEOs navigate a complex operating environment shaped by rapid technological change, geopolitical uncertainty and economic pressure, many companies have yet to translate investment into consistent financial gains, PwC says.

SACCI survey respondents positive about prospects for improved trade conditions

The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (SACCI’s) latest Trade Conditions Survey for December points to ongoing pressure on the back of a subdued domestic economy. However, the majority of respondents also expected trade conditions to improve during the first half of 2026. The survey results indicate that the trade climate deteriorated in December, with 60% of the respondents experiencing limited trade activities. 

Sasol appoints Rhidwaan Gasant as nonexecutive director

JSE-listed energy and chemicals company Sasol has appointed Rhidwaan Gasant as independent nonexecutive director with effect from February 1. He satisfies the independence requirements for directors under applicable requirements in South Africa and the US, the company notes.
