Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

Absa PMI remains in contractionary territory

Financial services firm Absa’s Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) decreased further by 1.5 points to 40.5 points in December and remains firmly in the range indicating contraction. However, an unusually sharp decline in the inventories index, as well as a steep decline in the employment index, were the main drivers of the weaker headline reading, the bank notes.

Gauteng govt urges matriculants to use digital platform to access results

The Gauteng Provincial Government on Thursday suggested that Matriculants make use of its Gauteng Matric Results Online System to access their 2025 National Senior Certificate examination results. The results will be released on January 13, and will also be made available to accredited newspapers for publication with only examination numbers and results publicised. Gauteng MEC for the Department of e-Government Bonginkosi Dhlamini said the online system ensures that learners can view their results quickly, securely, and conveniently as soon as they are officially released.

They also assert that better debt collection alone will not address the crisis and that structural remedies are needed to rebalance risk and cost across the electricity value chain.

The SKA-Mid telescope array has passed its first true test as a science instrument

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Observatory (SKAO) has announced the successful conclusion of a key test of its South Africa-based SKA-Mid instrument. The SKA-Mid (Mid being short for mid radio frequency), being constructed in the Karoo region in the Northern Cape province, would, when completed, be composed of 197 dishes (including those of South Africa’s established MeerKAT radio telescope array, which was ultimately intended to be integrated into the SKA-Mid array). The test saw two of the seven SKA-Mid dishes so far assembled, work together as an interferometer for the first time. Their target was a radio galaxy located some 2.6-billion light years from Earth.
