Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

Dealmakers are set for another banner year in 2026 with a record number of deals in the pipeline, as CEOs seek out the safety of scale to weather mounting economic and geopolitical risks, JPMorgan's Global Head of Advisory and M&A, Anu Aiyengar, told Reuters in an interview. Last year was the second-best on record for M&A activity, worth $5.1-trillion, despite stomach-churning market gyrations that followed US President Donald Trump's shifting trade policies and a government shutdown that halted US IPOs for more than six weeks.

The Global Cooperation Barometer 2026, developed by international finance organisation the World Economic Forum (WEF) and management consulting firm McKinsey & Company, reveals that strong pressures on multilateral institutions are causing global cooperation to evolve rather than retreat. The Global Cooperation Barometer shows countries are rewriting the way they engage in cooperation. Creating new cooperative formats will require new structures, from trade agreements to standards alliances, and new types of partnerships, including public-private and private-private partnership, to manage them effectively, the WEF says.

Business-led nonprofit platform Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA) has appointed advocate Anton du Plessis as strategy and performance executive head and CEO-designate, and Martin Kingston as a nonexecutive director on the board. The Rustenburg Waste Tyre Depot, visited by Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Deputy Minister Bernice Swarts, is not representative of the dire state of depots across the country, says tyre recycling initiative Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africa (Redisa). It suggests that the Deputy Minister should rather have visited the site of the Biesiesvlei depot in Lichtenburg, which is also in the North West. In 2023, the depot went up in flames and caused significant environmental damage.
