SuperUser Account / Monday, May 11, 2026 / Categories: Industry News SARB appoints Makrelov as new chief economist and MPC member The South African Reserve Bank said on Monday that Konstantin Makrelov had been appointed as its new chief economist, replacing Christopher Loewald who took early retirement in March. Makrelov will also serve as a member of the SARB's Monetary Policy Committee and Financial Stability Committee, the central bank said in a statement. He joined the bank in November 2018 as lead economist, later becoming divisional head for economic and climate change-related research in January 2024.
