Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

Oppenheimer family scion urges South Africa to cut red tape

Jonathan Oppenheimer, scion of the family that built Anglo American and De Beers into global mining powerhouses, urged the South African government to “get out of the way” of entrepreneurs. While small and medium-sized companies make up 91% of formal businesses in South Africa and account for more than a third of gross domestic product, weak economic growth and high running and compliance costs threaten their survival. More than half the country’s small businesses risk shutting down within a year under current cost-inflation conditions without outside help, an index compiled by Absa Group and the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry shows.

During a transport-focused webinar hosted by Creamer Media last month as a fitting end to transport month, consultancy Oliver Wyman energy and natural resources partner Mark Evans said the DoT and Transnet's active efforts to understand how the private sector wants to assist have changed the landscape of the logistics network and how it might be operated.

Transport Forum discusses embedding reforms by demonstrating their impact

The virtual conference held by transport sector engagement organisation the Transport Forum on November 6 heard from a range of experts about the progress of reforms in the transport sector and the improvements in logistics over the past few years. The conference also discussed how gathering data on the performance improvements and the direct benefits from the reforms for businesses and people, and publicising this data, could help to embed the reforms within the political environment in South Africa.
