AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current

Critical minerals, food crops at risk of climate disruption by 2050, report shows

More than 70% of critical minerals needed for the transition to net zero emissions will be at risk from climate disruption by 2050, professional services firm PwC says. The firm's latest report, titled ‘Climate Risks to Nine Key Commodities Report’, shows that the production of copper, cobalt and lithium minerals crucial for the clean energy transition could face significant or higher drought risk by 2050 under a high-emissions scenario. Currently, these critical minerals are only at a 10% risk.

DMRE announces petrol price increase, diesel price decrease for May

The price of petrol, both 93 and 95, will increase by 37c/ℓ as of May 1, while diesel prices will decrease by 30c/ℓ and 36c/ℓ for 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur, respectively, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has announced. It notes that the average Brent crude oil price increased from $84.22 to $88.10 a barrel during the period under review.

Coca-Cola gears up for IPO of $8bn Billion bottling arm

Coca-Cola is gearing up for a potential initial public offering (IPO) of its African bottling business as soon as next year after previously putting the plans on hold, people with knowledge of the matter said. The drinks company is considering a dual listing for Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in Johannesburg and Amsterdam, according to the people. It may seek a valuation of more than $8-billion for the business, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is private.

NCOP approves Climate Change Bill

The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) has approved the Climate Change Bill. “The Climate Change Bill will provide the much-needed legal framework to regulate activities that contribute to climate change; ensure an effective response in all spheres of government and by society at large; ensure a just transition; and maximise the opportunities afforded to our economy by the global shift to a green economy,” says Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Barbara Creecy.
