AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current

Tau called out for sitting on SABS corruption, maladministration probe findings

Trade, Industry and Competition spokesperson and Member of Parliament Toby Chance has implored Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau to release the investigative report compiled by independent investigator TSU International on matters of alleged mismanagement and corruption issues at the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) as a matter of urgency. In a letter to Tau on August 28, Chance reminded Tau that the investigation, which was commissioned in February, had an initial report-back deadline of June 30, which was later extended to July 31. Yet, to date, no feedback has been given on whether the investigation has been completed nor when its findings will be released.

New independent directors must be appointed for Necsa board to be quorate

Following the resignation of five board members from the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) last week, Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will need to appoint new independent directors to ensure that the board is quorate. Necsa chairperson Dave Nicholls, who has not resigned, confirmed with Engineering News that the five individuals resigned because of their unhappiness with the implementation of salary increases for senior executives.

Lower inflation to benefit economy more slowly in face of steep administered prices – Absa CIB

Lower inflation would help to reduce inflation expectations and inflation over the long term and, ultimately, lead to lower interest rates, which would benefit consumers by lowering debt-servicing costs and possibly provide space for stronger credit growth. However, while financial services firm Absa Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) agreed with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) that lower inflation would provide benefits, fuel price inflation owing to low-base effects, steep administered price increases and rising food price inflation were likely to contribute to inflation remaining higher for longer than the SARB expected.

B20 South Africa energy task force urges big upscaling in energy transition financing

The B20 South Africa task force on energy has unveiled three recommendations that will be presented to the G20 government leaders when they gather for their yearly meeting in Johannesburg in November. The recommendations include mobilising energy transition finance at greater scale and speed, supporting industrialisation across the energy value chain, and unlocking investment in critical energy infrastructure.
