Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

Necsa welcomes confirmation of site for next nuclear power station

The State-owned South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) Group welcomes the upholding of the decision to grant State-owned Eskom environmental authorisation to build a 4 000 MW nuclear power station in Duynefontein, in the Western Cape. The 2017 decision to grant environmental authorisation was confirmed by Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) Minister Dr Dion George last week following an appeal against the original decision, Necsa says.

BCCEI secures new three-year agreements to strengthen civil engineering sector

Industry organisation the Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) has concluded a new three-year settlement for two of its collective agreements in the civil engineering sector. The settlement was officially signed on August 4 by employer organisations the Consolidated Employees Organisation of South Africa and the South African Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors; together with trade unions the Building, Construction and Allied Workers Union and the National Union of Mineworkers.

South African rand weakens as manufacturing beat fails to offset tariff nerves

The South African rand was weaker on Monday as better-than-expected domestic manufacturing data failed to offset trade concerns, with the country scrambling to secure a lower tariff rate on its exports to the United States. US imports from South Africa face a 30% duty, the highest rate among sub-Saharan African countries, but President Cyril Ramaphosa's office said last week he had spoken with US President Donald Trump and that the two countries' trade negotiating teams would hold more detailed talks.

Environmental impact assessment (EIA) firm Infinity Environmental has released a pre-application draft scoping report on the proposed R20-billion expansion project at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. V&A Waterfront Holdings proposes turning the Granger Bay Precinct of the Waterfront into a new mixed-use residential and commercial node.
