Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

South Africa’s stronger public finances have given the county a sizable cushion to absorb external shocks — such as the fallout from the conflict in Iran, according to the head of the National Treasury. “It would take a very large shock to derail our fiscal plans,” Treasury Director-General Duncan Pieterse told Bloomberg in an interview on Monday. “We have geared ourselves in a way that we can manage some deviation.”

Transnet exceeds automotive export targets for 2025/26 financial year

State-owned terminal operator Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) handled 792 574 fully-built units (FBU) between April 1, 2025, and February 15, this year, which includes new imports, exports and transshipments vehicles, and has exceeded its target for the financial year ending on March 31, 2026. The three car terminals in the ports of Durban, East London and Gqeberha broke productivity records during the past ten months, driven by increased volumes of FBUs moving on and off car carriers, TPT says.

Fuel prices to rise on March 4; further increases likely amid Middle East tension

On March 4, the price of 93- and 95-octane petrol will increase by 20c/ℓ, diesel with a sulphur content of 0.05% will increase by 62c/ℓ, diesel with a sulphur content of 0.005% will increase by 65c/ℓ, illuminating paraffin will increase by 44c/ℓ and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will increase by 58c/ℓ. The maximum retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) will increase by 23c/kg nationally and by 26c/kg in the Western Cape, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) has announced.

New-vehicle market keeps on growing, but exports in the doldrums

February new-vehicle sales, at 53 455 units, were up 11.4% compared with the same month last year, in the market’s best performance for a February since 2013. naamsa | The Automotive Business Council says the continued growth in the market, carrying over from last year, serves as proof of “increasingly entrenched domestic economic stabilisation”.
