Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

TNPA signs 25-year LNG terminal agreement for Port of Ngqura

South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has signed a 25-year terminal operator agreement with Ukwanda LNG, to develop an onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification facility at the Port of Ngqura, in the Eastern Cape. Ukwanda LNG is a JV between Tamasa Energy Group and the State-owned Strategic Fuel Fund, and full operationalisation of the terminal is targeted for 2035.

Kanu opens new R25m manufacturing site to support Isuzu plant

Kanu Commercial Body Construction has opened its new manufacturing facility in the Aloes Industrial Complex in Gqeberha, adjacent to Isuzu Motors South Africa’s (IMSAf’s) Vehicle Conversion and Distribution Centre. Kanu Commercial Body Construction, which employs 150 people, has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of IMSAf since 2015.

Sappi, UPM sign binding agreements to merge European graphic paper businesses

Paper and pulp manufacturer Sappi has, through its wholly owned Sappi Papier Holding (SPH) subsidiary, entered into binding transaction agreements with Finnish materials solutions company UPM-Kymmene Corporation to establish a joint venture (JV) comprising Sappi's graphic paper business in Europe and UPM's communication papers business in Europe, the UK and the US. The parties in December announced that they had signed nonbinding documents with the aim of potentially merging their European paper businesses.

Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Willie Aucamp has assured South Africans that the country remains committed to its Antarctic and sub-Antarctic research programme, which contributes significantly to climate science, biodiversity conservation, oceanographic research and global environmental monitoring. The Minister on May 27 welcomed the 2025/26 Marion Island overwintering team back to South Africa, following their urgent evacuation after delays affecting the departure of the SA Agulhas II relief voyage.
