Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

The SBI calls for faster implementation of policies to boost job-creating growth

Industry nonprofit the Small Business Institute (SBI) has called for faster implementation of agreed policies and laws to improve job-creating growth and calls on President Cyril Ramaphosa to marshal government to purposefully implement the country's plans and initiatives. “There are many plans and initiatives to get the country out of the 1% GDP growth trajectory. Layering new ones on existing ones will not help the economy grow, and establishing a plethora of new institutions through an incapable State is counter-productive,” SBI CEO John Dludlu says in a media release ahead of Ramaphosa’s delivery of his yearly State of the Nation Address (SoNA).

Crime, job prospects drive rich, skilled South Africans abroad

Concerns about crime, the future of their children and career prospects have driven more than 1-million rich and well-educated South Africans to emigrate, a new report shows. Nearly half of the 1 500 South Africans living in 73 countries polled for the South African Diaspora Report 2026 by the University of Cape Town’s Liberty Institute of Strategic Marketing cited fears about insecurity and safety as their main reason for leaving.

Optipower transaction bolsters Kulani Energy transmission EPC capacity

Black women-owned engineering and energy infrastructure firm Kulani Energy has acquired key assets from Optipower that historically operated as a division of Murray & Roberts Limited, which is in business rescue. Optipower is one of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors approved on Eskom’s Panel A, supporting the National Transmission Company South Africa’s planned roll-out of more than 14 000 km of transmission lines.

Tau Pele receives cold, in-situ recycling road rehabilitation train from Wirtgen for N4 upgrade

A cold recycling road rehabilitation train, which can mill, mix and pave old asphalt in a single pass, has been deployed on the Schoemanskloof stretch of the N4 road by construction contractor Tau Pele Construction, which is upgrading the stretch of road. The train, sourced from construction equipment manufacturer Wirtgen, is now hard at work upgrading the 68 km Schoemanskloof stretch of the N4 highway, in Mpumalanga. The upgrade entails the construction of 50 km of additional lanes, in addition to the rehabilitation of the existing road and overlaying the entire project, says Tau Pele MD Frans Bouwer.

With demand 98% covered, Eskom can now turn its focus to pricing models – Marokane

Eskom has arrived at a position where it can turn its attention to determining the appropriate pricing in support of the various sectors of the economy – especially vulnerable sectors, says Eskom group CEO Dan Marokane. Participating in a panel on ‘Progress through private sector partnerships’ at the Investing in African Mining Indaba 2026 in Cape Town this week, the power utility boss said the percentage of time Eskom was able to meet demand from a supply perspective stood at 9% just over two years ago.
