Africa must build its own e-mobility research, manufacturing ecosystem, uYilo says

Africa cannot rely solely on knowledge transfer from Europe, Asia or the US and must develop its own research and innovation ecosystem to drive the growth of electric micro-mobility across the continent, uYilo eMobility Programme programme manager Edem Foli has said. Established by the Technology Innovation Agency in 2013, uYilo provides an accredited battery testing and materials characterisation facility, an electric vehicle (EV) systems laboratory, and a smart e-mobility ecosystem for testing and developing original-equipment manufacturer products and services. These facilities assist startups, small, medium-sized and microenterprises (SMMEs), and innovators in testing, developing, and validating their products, helping them to commercialise solutions and contribute to the industrialisation of the sector.
