Renewable energy engineering firm AfiCoast Engineers SA has announced that a new company,
AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current
basket of renewable energy projects.

More green hydrogen insight on way as Southern African scientists head to Germany

Twelve scientists from Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries will head to Germany in May, where they will have an opportunity to obtain more in-depth insight into green hydrogen amid the region’s unveiling of important green hydrogen projects, pilot plant initiatives and the awarding of a large number of green hydrogen scholarships. Highlighting this week during the Sasscal-organised two-day Green Hydrogen Symposium in Namibia was Sasscal executive director Dr Jane Olwoch, who emphasised to Engineering News & Mining Weekly in a Zoom interview that “the countries of Southern Africa should first and foremost take note of the region’s advantages of participating in the green hydrogen economy.” (Also watch attached Creamer Media video.)

Release of Gas Master Plan approved at Cabinet’s last official meeting ahead of May poll

Cabinet approved the publication of the long-awaited Gas Master Plan for public comment during what was the last formal meeting of the executive ahead of the May 29 election. However, Minister in The Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni indicated that special Cabinet meetings could still be convened should the need arise. The master plan, Ntshavheni said, was supportive of government’s commitment to diversifying the country’s energy mix away from coal-fired power plants.

Indaba produces biodiversity economy action plan to address sector challenges

The Biodiversity Economy and Investment Indaba, held this week, resulted in the development of a programme of action to address the challenges in the biodiversity sector as part of the National Biodiversity Economy Strategy (NBES). Key interventions identified include sourcing financial support, gaining access to land for biodiversity projects, sourcing human capital development and scientific support, research and securing market access for products.

Treasury publishes call for proposals to test alternative infrastructure funding models

National Treasury has published a call for proposals for consideration by the Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI), and intends to use this BFI Window to develop a pipeline of projects and programmes to test alternative financing and funding models. The primary purpose of this BFI Special Window is to close funding gaps and provide viability gap funding for projects and programmes that will leverage private sector financing and technical assistance, it says.
